Before joining GCG, Mr. Stein, who was admitted to the New York bar in 1982, enjoyed a
20-year career as an associate and partner in the Bankruptcy Department of the law firm of
Hahn & Hessen LLP, where he managed large caseloads in the representation of creditors'
committees, secured creditors and trustees in bankruptcy cases and creditor interests in
out-of-court workouts, and assisted in the firm's administration in such areas as recruiting and
risk management. His insolvency experience cuts across a broad array of industries, including
retail, textile, garment, nursing homes, maritime, automotive parts, airline, food production, real
estate, construction, printing, toys, tobacco products and barter. Mr. Stein has lectured
extensively on topics such as Chapter 7 and 11, out-of-court workouts, preferences, DIP
financing, and bankruptcy procedure.
Mr. Stein is a Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude graduate of Queens College, where he received the Koppel S. Pinson Prize for earning the
school's highest GPA in his major, history. He earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan. Mr. Stein is a longstanding member of the American Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
